TSN Conference 2026
January 23rd, 2026 (Friday) // 10:35 am – 11:00 am // Room 106 // Restoring Islands and Shorelines: Landscape-Scale Conservation in Northeast Michigan // Northeast Michigan’s islands and shorelines support globally rare species and natural communities, yet face mounting threats from invasive species, pollution, and development. Huron Pines is advancing a landscape-scale strategy to restore ecological function across 11 Lake Huron islands and sensitive coastal habitats. In this presentation, we will share how our collaborative approach is driving coastal conservation in the region, including supporting the recovery of the endangered Great Lakes piping plover. We will provide an overview of our efforts to ground truth and enhance piping plover’s marginal and historical nesting habitats and how, combined with active monitoring, these efforts are building community support and fueling their recovery.
