Gwynne Powell is a master’s student studying Ecosystem Science and Management at the University of Michigan’s School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS). She is native to West Virginia and naturalized in Michigan, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Grand Valley State University. She is the current President of U-M’s Society for Conservation Biology, the wrangler of two cats (Penny and Nepeta), and an aspiring community builder. She began her land stewardship work at Blandford Nature Center in Walker, MI, where she was introduced to invasive species and strategic land management concepts. After 4 years in growing media and fertilizer product R&D at Scotts Miracle-Gro/Hawthorne Gardening Company in Columbus, Ohio, she’s thrilled to apply her land stewardship and professional research experience to the conservation and restoration of the St. Pierre Wetland.
