Selena Smith is an Associate Professor in Earth & Environmental Sciences and Program in the Environment at University of Michigan. She received both her BSc and PhD from University of Alberta in systematics and evolution, with a paleobotany focus, followed by a postdoc at Royal Holloway University of London. As one reclaiming her Otipemisiwak Métis heritage, and finding herself on Anishinaabeg traditional land, she is increasingly dedicated to supporting and uplifting Indigenous work and points of view – especially as centered around our plant relatives, land, and water, such as Mnomen/manoomin.
