Sheila completed her MS and PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Michigan, and is currently a Lecturer and Academic Program Specialist at UM School for the Environment and Sustainability (SEAS), where she teaches graduate level courses in Ecology, Conservation and Restoration. She has served as an Instructional Consultant for the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT) and as Assistant Director of the Ecosystem Management Initiative, including work as an adaptive management consultant for various organizations. Her research has focused on pollination and herbivory of invasive plants, as well as the ways human landscapes, from agriculture to green infrastructure, support biodiversity. In all endeavors she seeks to integrate academic activities with the real-world data needs and sustainability challenges of natural resource planners and managers. This includes co-creating Professional Stewards Hikes to bring practitioners and academics together in the field and advising students in client-based master’s projects.
